Touring Checklist

Some general things to remember...

  • A number plate on the rear of your caravan or trailer (legal requirement)
  • Towing mirrors
  • Tool set
  • Spares - bulbs, 12v fuses, gas hose
  • Jump leads
  • Spare wheel and jack
  • Mains electric hook up lead
  • Caravan leisure battery
  • Fire extinguisher and fire blanket
  • Smoke alarm and spare battery
  • Caravan brace and corner steadies
  • Ramps and blocks for levelling
  • Stabiliser, if one not fitted
  • Caravan step
  • Awning - with poles, pegs and mallet
  • Outdoor furniture
  • Gas bottle and regulator
  • Water containers for fresh and waste water

For cooking:

  • Pots and pans
  • Plates, bowls, cups and glasses
  • Cutlery and cooking utensils, including a sharp knife
  • Tin opener and corkscrew/bottle opener
  • Containers for storage
  • Bin bags
  • Washing up bowl and liquid plus tea towels
  • Dish cloths and tea towels
  • Tin foil, food wrap, kitchen roll
  • Food suitable for cooking on your stove or a bbq
  • Tea and coffee making stuff
  • BBQ and charcoal
  • Matches or lighter and bbq lighting fluid

Personal care:

  • Bedding and pillows
  • Clothes, including night clothes, waterproof coats, swimming costumes, sun hats and walking shoes
  • Towels
  • Toiletries
  • Shavers and Hair care items
  • First aid kit with plasters, tweezers, antiseptic and bandages
  • Sewing kit with safety pins
  • Sunglasses
  • Sun cream
  • Pain killers
  • Insect repellent

Caravan Travel Checklist

Before you set off:

  • Make sure the gas is turned off and any onboard water or flush tanks are empty
  • Set the fridge power to 12 volt
  • Check that all the windows and skylights are closed, the inside doors and cupboards are closed, and everything is safely secured within the van
  • Check the general condition of the tyres, the tyre pressure and make sure that all wheel bolts are tightened properly
  • Check that all road lights are working
  • Also check all oil, brake fluid, coolant, and windscreen washer levels
  • See that the jockey wheel and the corner steadies are up and secure
  • Make sure the breakaway cable is connected
  • Remember to take off the hand brake before you leave!
