Join the Friends of Par Beach and the Friends of Luxulyan Valley for a wild flower walk with botanist Ian Bennallick. Par beach has the largest number of flower species in the whole of Cornwall, due to the number of different habitats and all the activity at Par Docks. Meet at 10am in the car park. Gribbin Day Mark Open Day, Menabilly

This iconic red and white striped ‘day mark’ was built on Gribbin Head in 1832 to provide a navigational aid to sailors. It is now owned by the National Trust. Climb up the stairs inside the huge 84 foot tower and take in the views from the top of this striking coastal land mark which is clearly visible from Penhale Caravan Park.

The tower is open from 11am until 5pm and it costs £1 to enter (free for members). Booking is not required. The closest car park is at Menabilly Farm, 2 miles from Penhale. It is then a twenty minute walk to the day mark.

Join the Cornwall Wildlife Trust on a boat trip to their unique island nature reserve off the coast of Looe, and enjoy a guided walk with the ranger. Charlestown Heritage Trails

The pretty harbour village of Charlestown was built by the local landowner Charles Rashleigh in the 19th century, to ship copper ore and china clay. At one time there were many businesses alongside the docks, including boat building, net and rope making, and brickworks. The guided walk gives you a chance to learn more about the fascinating history of this beautiful, unspoilt village, which is part of a Cornish World Heritage Site and also home to a fleet of square-rigged sailing vessels. The village and harbour, as well as the ships themselves, have been used in many well known films and television programmes.

Headland is a fantastic coastal garden overlooking the English Channel and the beautiful Fowey Estuary. Its unique position on the South Cornwall coast has an almost sub tropical climate which allows many interesting plants to flourish.

Bodmin Riding and Heritage Festival

Visit Bodmin for this traditional festival. The town’s main street will be lined with stalls and children from local primary schools will compete in the ‘Riding Dance’ through the town, accompanied by local bands and led by Bodmin’s own town band. There will also be a search for the ‘Beast of Bodmin’; young ‘Helliers’ will seek out and capture the beast and put him on trial!

There’s a Craft Fair in the Shire House, and in the public rooms there will be an exhibition of model railways. Bodmin Veterans football team will play a match against an invited team in Priory Park, where there will also be fairground rides.

There’s plenty of parking around the town and free entertainment, music and dancing will take place all day along Fore Street and on Mount Folly. Go and listen to the Town Crier competition, when criers from all over Cornwall show off their voices to win. Watch the children’s colourful procession through then town and browse the stalls selling traditional and modern crafts. The event runs from 9am - 5pm on Saturday and 10am - 12pm.

Gribbin Day Mark Open Day, Menabilly

This iconic red and white striped ‘day mark’ was built on Gribbin Head in 1832 to provide a navigational aid to sailors. It is now owned by the National Trust. Climb up the stairs inside the huge 84 foot tower and take in the views from the top of this striking coastal land mark which is clearly visible from Penhale Caravan Park.

The tower is open from 11am until 5pm and it costs £1 to enter (free for members). Booking is not required. The closest car park is at Menabilly Farm, 2 miles from Penhale. It is then a twenty minute walk to the day mark.

This great fun, popular Carnival will begin on Sunday with a Charity Fair Day. There will be lots of stalls and exhibits, country demonstrations and activities, as well as Cornish Wrestling Championships.

The pretty harbour village of Charlestown was built by the local landowner Charles Rashleigh in the 19th century, to ship copper ore and china clay. At one time there were many businesses alongside the docks, including boat building, net and rope making, and brickworks. The Boconnoc Steam Fair offers entertainment for the whole family. Gribbin Day Mark Open Day, Menabilly

This iconic red and white striped ‘day mark’ was built on Gribbin Head in 1832 to provide a navigational aid to sailors. It is now owned by the National Trust. Climb up the stairs inside the huge 84 foot tower and take in the views from the top of this striking coastal land mark which is clearly visible from Penhale Caravan Park.

The tower is open from 11am until 5pm and it costs £1 to enter (free for members). Booking is not required. The closest car park is at Menabilly Farm, 2 miles from Penhale. It is then a twenty minute walk to the day mark.

Looe Carnival Week

Every day there is something happening in the town. Join in the traditional Floral dance through the town, listen to some alfresco Cornish singing by a local choir on the seafront and watch the carnival parade with colourful floats, pipe bands, majorettes and brass bands.

They can take part in the under 13 mini fun run that starts from the fish quay and snakes through the local wood; there’s the children’s sand modelling competition on East Looe Beach, and kids will love the traditional Punch and Judy shows.
