Lostwithiel Local Produce Market

You will find lots of fresh, seasonal, local produce for sale, including meat, fish, fruit and vegetables. There are also cakes, plants and some crafts. Each market is different depending on what’s in season.

Held at the Community Centre, which is easy to find on the main road through Lostwithiel, from 10am -2pm, it is free to get in and there is also free parking.

Cornwall Spring Flower Show, Boconnoc

This lovely event is organised by the Cornwall Garden Society and is held at Boconnoc House and Gardens near Lostwithiel. There will be show gardens, trade stands and competitive classes, as well as good food, music, lectures, art and photography exhibitions.

The Show is open from 10am - 5pm on Saturday and 10am - 4pm on Sunday, and admission costs £7 per adult (under 16’s are free). Dogs on leads are welcome.

Luxury Dining Train, Bodmin & Wenford Railway

Eden Project: Talk by Ken Thompson

Ken Thompson is a plant ecologist and a lecturer at Sheffield University. He is also the author of a number of books including No Nettles Required and An Ear to the Ground, both published by Eden Project Books. In Ken’s latest book, ‘Do We Need Pandas?’, he explores how much we really know about the species that make up the natural world, and whether we need to be more concerned about ecosystems as a whole than about iconic species. As the book’s subtitle, ‘The uncomfortable truth about biodiversity’, suggests, it promises to be a stimulating evening!

‘Words and Music – The Ghosts of May’, St Austell Brewery

Rock Climbing at the Eden Project

See Eden from a whole new perspective on their Rock Wall! There are five routes up the cliff face next to the Rainforest biome, each of varying difficulty, and expert tuition and all the equipment you need are provided.

It costs £10 for a 45 minute climb – book on the day at the Visitor Centre. Climbing sessions run at 10am, 11am, 12pm, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm and 5pm each day. The minimum age is 7.You will need to be at the Rock Wall at least 15 minutes before your climb.

Eden Project: Talk by Tony Foster

Artist Tony Foster, who lives near Eden in Tywardreath, has been working in the world’s wildernesses for 25 years. In this illustrated talk he will tell us about his adventures working in rainforest in Guyana, Costa Rica and Honduras and will contrast this with his experience working in Death Valley, the Sea of Cortés and the Mojave and Sonoran deserts.

Ince Castle Gardens Open Day, Saltash

Ince Castle is at the end of a very attractive peninsula sticking out into the River Lynher opposite Antony House and gardens.  The house is approached up a straight tunnel-like drive lined with daffodils which are then followed by clouds of cow parsley. 

The gardens, which have been planted since 1960, comprise woodland with camellias, magnolias etc and masses of bulbs and hellebores in early spring and more formal mixed beds and borders near the house, also an orchard with more bulbs and shrubs.  There is also a charming shell house made in 1964 by the present owner's parents.  Beautiful river views can be seen from all parts of the garden.  In all the gardens extend to about 5 acres.  

Open for the NGS, entry is £3.50 (children free) and the gardens are open from 2pm until 5pm. Dogs are allowed on leads. Toilets and refreshments are available or bring a picnic.

Looe Island Guided Walk

Take a boat trip with the Cornwall Wildlife Trust to this unique island nature reserve off the coast of Looe, south east Cornwall, and join the warden for a guided walk. During your two hours on the island your guide will help you spot the island’s wildlife and you’ll also learn about the Trust’s work and the challenges of island life.

One trip begins at 3.15pm and another at 3.45pm, the cost is £16 per person and the trips are suitable for ages 11 and over; an adult must accompany those under 16. You will return at 5.45pm or 6.15pm. These walks have proved so popular there are extra trips this season! Fowey Rock Pool Ramble

Meet at Readymoney Cove near Fowey at 11am and join in exploring the rocky shore, where you can find starfish, crabs and fish. Booking is not necessary and the event is free but a donation to the Friends of Fowey Estuary would be appreciated. Wear suitable clothing and footwear as you may get wet! City of London Sinfonia with Marcin Zdunik, Truro

Marcin Zdunik won the first prize and Grand Prix winner of the VI Lutoslawski International Cello Competition in Warsaw  and has performed with with Prague Chamber Orchestra,  Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Wratislavia Chamber Orchestra and as well as appearing as soloist in famous European concert halls.

‘Neon Quartet’, St Austell Brewery

Neon Quartet is a new group featuring one of the UK's finest and most respected saxophonists and composers Stan Sulzmann in the company of three of the most in demand and versatile young musicians on the British scene.

Trereife Easter Food and Craft Fair, Nr Penzance

Inspiring tours of Trereife House, a delectable selection of locally produced food and drink, exquisite art and crafts to browse and buy, children’s Easter Egg Hunt and live music performances: these are just a handful of the attractions to be found at Trereife’s Easter Fair.

One of the many attractions over the weekend will be the highly entertaining locally inspired cookery demonstrations by Andy Appleton head chef of Jamie Oliver’s inspired ‘Fifteen’ restaurant and Sanjay Kumar from Slow Food Cornwall, alongside Robin Turner and Nick Howells from Newlyn’s fish industry. Visitors will have the chance to sample the dishes and purchase the ingredients which will be on sale in the food marquee.

At the top of every younger visitor’s list of things to do has to be the taking part in Trereife’s Grand Easter Egg Hunt. Taking place within the woods and around the walled garden, the Egg Hunt has become very popular with hundreds of happy children expected to be eagerly following the clues this year. As well as the egg hunt, youngsters can have a go in the Funky Food Workshop or be totally amazed by the incredible Mister Cool Magic and his fantastic magic show.

Island Jumble Sale, St Georges Island, Looe

Take a boat trip to St George's (Looe) Island nature reserve and help raise funds for the Cornwall Wildlife Trust by buying Island bric-a-brac. Items for sale include books and other objects from the Atkins sisters' extensive collections. Book a place on the ‘Islander’ boat by signing up for one of the trips at the St. George's Island information board. This is located by the lifeboat station on Buller's Quay, East Looe. Boats depart from East Looe every half an hour from 10.30 to 14.00. The crossing takes about 15 minutes and visitors will have 1 hour on the Island Beach. The small visitor centre will be open

The boat fee is £6 adults and £4 for under 11s. The trip is dependent on the weather and sea state - on the morning of the event a message will be available on the Island's answer phone (07974 293495) with an update. Chouf Ouchouf, Truro

Contemporary performance and traditional Moroccan acrobatics, this show is a witty and highly skilled evocation of the energy, joy and urgency of life in Tangiers.

Chouf Ouchouf is the latest collaboration between Groupe Acrobatique de Tangier and Swiss artists Zimmerman and de Perrot. With live music and a set that floats apart and reassembles to represent the many faces of a bewildering and exciting landscape, the performers go in search of the city's beating heart.

‘Steam, Beer and Jazz Special’, Bodmin and Wenford Railway

A great evening out! Come and enjoy the music of either the Pennyroyal Jazz Band or the Cornish Steam Jazz Band, together with the sight, sound and smell of a working steam locomotive.

The Jazz Band are playing at the station from 6pm, with the musical entertainment then continuing throughout the evening on board the train. There is a licensed bar on board, with real ale available.
